Thoracolumbar Fascia
Webinar 2024/09/15
Functional Anatomy, Training & Back Health
The thoracolumbar fascia (TLF) is a marvel of the body, playing a key role in postural ease, movement freedom, resilience, and a strong feeling of health and comfort in the back—and beyond. Within the Anatomy Trains body map, it is regarded as a 12-line roundhouse, making it one of the most influential areas for functionality and vitality.
In this webinar, you will get to know the 3-layered architecture of the TLF and its primary myofascial connections, along with the significance of the lumbar interfascial triangle (LIFT). This complex information is presented in a tangible and immediately practice-relevant manner. We will also delve into the sensory innervation and discuss movement coordination (proprioception) and the felt sense (interoception) originating from the fascia of the back. During the Slings Myofascial Training practice, you will experience specific exercises focusing on the individual layers of the TLF and its 12 fascial movement qualities. If treated well, the TLF has your back, literally!

During the webinar, Karin will be using massage balls and encourages participants to have their own to practice along. She recommends 2 air-filled massage balls about 10-12 cm in diameter – the balls should depress when squeezed. If you can find ones with nubs on them it is great, but that is tertiary…the most important is air filled about 10-12 cm and depresses when squeezed. (example here)
The webinar will be taught in English with live Japanese translation provided by Kaori Tani. Here is an example of how it will flow:
